Board of Directors
The Rossport Harbour Non-Profit Marina Inc. ("Rossport Marina") has a Board of Directors consisting of seven residents who live in the Rossport area. The Rossport Marina is governed by the volunteer Board of Directors who are responsible for ensuring and overseeing that the volunteer Executive develop and execute on the strategic plan for the organization. The Board of Directors is also responsible for ensuring the Executive has implemented an adequate system in internal controls and is also responsible for approving the annual budget.
Members of the Board of Directors are elected by the Membership at the Annual General Meeting and serve for terms of office ranging from one to three years.
Individuals interested in becoming a Board Member are requested to complete and submit a Board Member Application Form prior to the Annual General Meeting.
The Board of Directors elected at the 2024 Annual General Meeting consists of the following individuals.
Cathy Collison, Chair
Cathy is a retired hospital executive who has lived in Rossport and enjoyed boating on Lake Superior since 1986. She has been an active member of the Rossport Marina Board since 2002, becoming Board Chair in 2022. She has guided the Board in the development and implementation of the initial stages of the Marina Revitalization Project.
She completed her initial nursing training in 1979, and has been employed as a general duty nurse, community mental health nurse, Director of Nursing for a rural hospital and completed her career as the CEO of that hospital. Along the way, she had two children and completed a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and a Masters degree in Public Health. She has extensive experience in board leadership, strategic planning, managing complex systems and organizations, and working with funding bodies.
In her spare time she enjoys gardening and spending time with her husband, and grandchildren.
Joanne ("Jo") Breckenridge
Jo is a long time resident of both Rossport and Nicol Island. She has volunteered for many community based projects and has enjoyed the "Big Lake" for many years.
Bill Collinson
Bill is a longtime resident of Rossport. He has been involved with the Marina Board almost since its inception.
He has spent many hours out on the boat fishing, cruising and exploring the beautiful Rossport area of Lake Superior. Bill has served as Board Chair in the past and has been the Marina's Harbour Master for many years. During that time, he has developed many contacts and friendships with boaters from near and far. He retired from CP Rail in 2007 and is now actively involved in showing his grandchildren the joys of Lake Superior.
Larry Freeman
Larry has been a long time resident of Nicol Island. An electrician by trade, he has extensive experience having operated his own contacting business and having worked on many projects along the North Shore. He is also a volunteer working with the Friends of Battle Island to bring solar power to the facilities at Battle Island. Larry has a good historical knowledge of the marina facilities and volunteers his time to help maintain marina equipment. He is boater and enjoys fishing on the "Big Lake".
Lorne Molinski
Lorne has deep roots in the Village of Rossport having had family that lived in the area. He has extensive knowledge about the marina operations and has been involved with the Rossport Local Services Board for many years.
Philip Townsend, Treasurer & IT Systems Manager
Philip is a retired Partner of the Consulting Services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP ("PwC"). He held a number of leadership roles for PwC Canada and for the PwC Global firm with a focus on strategic planning, finance function effectiveness, process design and improvement, organizational design, internal controls design and technology planning and enablement. Prior to joining PwC, Philip held a number of senior management positions in both the private and public sectors. He is a resident of Rossport living on Nicol Island having moved from southern Ontario to the North Shore of Lake Superior in October 2018. He received his Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree from the University of Manitoba and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA) and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
Philip is an avid boater, canoeist, kayaker, hiker and has the world extensively for pleasure and business. He is keen to help provide strong financial management oversight and introduce systems and processes to help the Marina modernize the services provided to the community. Philip is also the webmaster for the Rossport Tourism Association and 625 Squadron websites.
Lisa Warren
Lisa moved to Rossport in 2020 and absolutely loves our Marina. She works at Canada Post in Schreiber but would gladly trade that job to sit at our beautiful Marina every day. Lisa wanted to become a member of the Board to help her fellow directors achieve a long lived dream of improving the look and services that our amazing Marina deserves.
